When Words Drive You Crazy

As a writer I’m writing all the time, as you would expect. what you might not expect is that some words make me crazy.

Consider device and devise. Only one letter different, yet there are times when I can’t remember which is which. So, I do this: device has a ‘c’ in it. In my mind, like a c-clamp which is a tool. So, all I’ve got to do is remember the c as in c-clamp and I’m spelling the word I want to spell and not making myself look it up in the dictionary or look silly.

You can do things like this, too. Make associations that point you to the desired result.

Good luck and happy writing.
