Don’t Do This!

Writing ain’t easy, so don’t write in a way that makes things more difficult. Write what you mean. Don’t write what you don’t mean. Like this:

Avoid not only construction

Rather than writing: Not only did the house have blue shutters, it was painted red, too.

Write: The house was red with blue shutters.
