Action
Nothing happens until you decide to do what ever it takes to fulfill your dream. Reading books, attending lectures and conferences will help, but won;t do you any good until you take the steps necessary to get where you want to be. That’s just how it is.
Education
Your need to take action will show you areas where you need to know more. Everyone faces deficits in their knowledge. Make a list of what you need to know and start learning. If the learning curve is too steep, her the expertise you need.
Follow Up Ruthlessly
When you develop a lead or hear of someone or a company who can help contact them. Get put on hold, call back. Can’t get to the person you need? Call again? Ask to schedule a phone call. Can’t get past the secretary? Tell her you want to hire the firm, or person. That will get you to sales right quick.
Three things to carry with you always are:
- A working ball point pen
- A notebook or piece of blank paper in your wallet
- Eight or ten business cards
Why? Because this allows you to capture information of people you want to contact. Never rely on giving someone your card and expect them to get back to you. They won’t.
I learned this the hard way when taking my daughter fishing I met a man who needed a website and I had noting to write down his contact information. Always be ready to do business.
Closely Define Who Buys Your Product
Sales. Sales. Sales won’t happen if you don’t know who you’re selling to. Who buys what you’re selling? that question must be answered.
You write web content? who buys it? Webmasters. Contact them, pitch them. Follow up with an email. Try hard to get a sit down meeting. Follow up.
Fish Where The Fish Are
When you’ve identified the people who buy what you’re selling, pitch to them and no one else. Advertise, send a newsletter, attend networking meetings, get out and meet people. Join a Chamber of Commerce, find the most active and busiest one in your area, even if you have to travel some. then look for business networking groups.
