We’ve presented information on what goes into a successful business website elsewhere on this blog. Here’s the why behind the what.
The top of your website must provide the following information to the reader before they leave never to return because you’ve only got 8 seconds. More on that below.
- Who are you? What’s the name of your business?
- What do you sell, provide, offer? Don’t hide this. Readers won’t hunt for information. Make what you can do for the reader obvious. Not what you do – what you can do for the reader.
- When should the reader contact you? Now. Make your phone number tapable on a cell phone. Make your email address tapable and clickable.
- Where are you? what town state. If an over the counter business include your street. Best of all is linking to a google Map.
- Why should the reader do business with you? Buy your books? Hire you. Promote you?
- What’s In It For Me? (meaning the reader) what distinguishes your business? What awards have you won? What are your professional credentials? If a doctor or medical professional, where did you go to school? What’s your background?
The answers to these question are critical to keeping people on your website> Why? You have only 8 (eight), yes that is not a misprint, seconds before they leave. Remember, and never forget, your competition is but a mouse click or a tap away. It is crucial to keep your visitor on your site.
